Solar power on roofs of service stations
280 TOTAL stations in Germany already equipped with photovoltaic systems
Berlin, 17. November 2020
TOTAL is further expanding the supply of solar energy at its service stations. The company has already installed photovoltaic modules on the service station roofs of 280 stations in Germany. By 2023, 560 stations throughout Germany are to receive solar energy systems. The electricity generated in this way is largely consumed directly on site and covers between 20 and 30 percent of the energy requirements of the respective service stations.
The project in Germany is part of an international programme of the Total Group, under which 5000 stations worldwide will be equipped with photovoltaic modules. Once all 5000 service stations are equipped with solar systems, they will achieve a total output of over 100 MWp.
Ingo Böning, head of the photovoltaic project at TOTAL Deutschland GmbH: "Today we have already equipped half of the stations planned in Germany with solar systems. The project is a great success for us, as it not only enables us to further expand our commitment to renewable energies, but also to supply our filling stations with green electricity. At the stations, the solar power is used, for example, for the energy-intensive operation of car washes or for lighting and goods refrigeration in the shop, as well as for the newly built electric charging stations and hydrogen electrolysers".
The Total Group has been active in the solar energy sector for over 40 years. Today, with SunPower and Total Solar, the company is one of the largest players in this field.
