- Next step of a successful help project for refugees’ initial admittance and integration
With the transfer of a small football field to a collective housing installation in Berlin-Weißensee, TOTAL Deutschland GmbH completed its 500,000-Euro program for the initial admittance of refugees. At the same time, the company announced the start of a project for the integration of refugees into the working life. “With that, we continue to honor our social responsibility and provide people new in Germany with the opportunity to begin building their proper professional perspective”, explained Bruno Daude-Lagrave, CEO of TOTAL Deutschland GmbH in Berlin.
At the end of 2015, the company came up with the motto “TOTAL helps helpers”, a program created to support clubs, institutions and organizations with their local initiatives surrounding the admittance of refugees. Altogether, 146 projects all over Germany received financial help from the program, which was significantly promoted throughout TOTAL’s network of gas stations.
Supported projects included residential facilities, sports offers from local clubs, integration classes from schools, language courses, cultural opportunities or even events for people to get to know each other. More than 350 initiatives from all around Germany sought after the financial assistance.
The construction of the football field located at the collective living quarters of the Gierso Boarding House GmbH on Rennbahnstraße in Weißensee was organized by GoVolunteer. Above all, it aims to provide children and teenagers among its 255 residents with ample recreational activities. The organization of tournaments with other living quarters and neighbors is also in the works in order to promote integration. “Football makes integration very simple as neither origin nor color of skin matter in the ground. It is all about having fun together”, the managing director of Go Volunteer, Henryk Seeger said. GoVolunteer is a network which aims at bringing volunteers and project from all over Germany together.
GIERSO Boarding House GmbH is defining itself as a humanitarian service provider serving the public authorities in Berlin in offering appropriate housing and accommodation for refugees and homeless people. Currently the company is operation six social housing installations in Berlin where people in need can find a temporary home. ”Our decade long experience makes us well prepared for the work with people from very different backgrounds. Offers like a football field are helping very much offering balance and joy of life for these people”, said Suada Dolovic, head of communication of GIERSO.
The kickoff of the symbolic first game came from professional football player Benny Köhler from 1. FC Union Berlin. In the future, together with the football club, or, to be more exact, with the initiative founded by the 1. FC Union Economic Council known as “Türöffner (Door openers) e.V – Job network for refugees”, TOTAL will begin offering internships to refugees at fuel stations with the aim of giving participants a chance to start their careers. As early as May, the first refugees are expected to make their first experiences in the German working environment. “We are continuously searching for dedicated employees for TOTAL’s growing network of service stations. We are more than prepared to also give refugees a chance”, emphasized the CEO of TOTAL, Bruno Daude-Lagrave.
“We are very pleased that TOTAL has joined the number of companies supporting our initiative for job integration of refugees”, said the President of Türöffner e.V. and member of the board of the 1.FC Union Economic Council, Joachim Gericke.”Over the past months we have already helped many refugees to integrate the German labor market by finding internships or even employment contracts. The focus of our activities is the individual support for the people and in particular to help companies with the manifold of administrative challenges. We are convinced that start of a professional career and the building of a proper economic existence are essential for successful integration of migrants.”
